Hear From Our Clients
A reputation built on 350+ client experiences across our premier locations.
You stop setting your alarm earlier just to shave. You stop scheduling your beach days around your waxing appointments. You stop dealing with razor burn on your neck or ingrown hairs on your bikini line that take days to heal.
That’s what permanent hair reduction actually means. Smooth skin that stays smooth without the constant maintenance. No more running to the drugstore for razors. No more avoiding certain clothes because you didn’t have time to shave that morning.
The hair that does grow back comes in finer and lighter. Most people see 70-90% permanent reduction after their full treatment series. The time you used to spend on hair removal? It’s yours again.
Dolce Aesthetics NY has been providing professional cosmetology services to Brooklyn since 2009. We serve Starrett City and surrounding neighborhoods with laser hair removal, skincare treatments, and non-surgical aesthetic procedures.
Our founder, Jennifer DiLandro, is a nurse practitioner who spent years as Director of Nursing at a surgical center in Brooklyn. She’s treated thousands of patients over 18 years and holds top-level credentials from Allergan and Merz Aesthetics. Every treatment at Dolce is medically supervised by licensed doctors and nurse practitioners.
Our Brooklyn location offers evening and Saturday appointments because we understand that Starrett City residents have jobs, families, and schedules that don’t always align with standard business hours.
You start with a consultation where our team assesses your skin type, hair color, and treatment areas. This determines which FDA-approved laser technology works best for you and how many sessions you’ll likely need.
During each session, the laser targets the pigment in your hair follicles. The light energy converts to heat, which damages the follicle enough to slow down or stop future growth. You’ll feel a snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band against skin. Most people describe it as tolerable, not painful. Sessions can take anywhere from 15 minutes for small areas like the upper lip to an hour for full legs.
You’ll need multiple sessions because hair grows in cycles, and the laser only works on hair that’s actively growing. Most people need 6-8 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. After each treatment, you’ll notice less regrowth. The hair that does come back grows slower and finer. By your final session, you’re looking at permanent reduction in that treatment area.
Ready to get started?
Laser hair removal at Dolce Aesthetics NY covers any area where you want to reduce unwanted hair. Face, neck, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, bikini line—you choose what bothers you most. We use FDA-approved laser systems that adjust for different skin tones and hair types, which matters in a diverse community like Starrett City.
Each session includes a skin assessment to make sure your skin is ready for treatment. You can’t be freshly tanned, and you need to shave the area beforehand (not wax or pluck, since the laser needs the hair root intact). The technician applies a cooling gel, performs the treatment, then applies a soothing cream afterward.
Brooklyn residents often start with smaller areas to see how their skin responds before committing to larger zones. That’s normal. You’re not locked into treating your entire body at once. We offer package pricing for multiple sessions since that’s how laser hair removal works—you need the series to see permanent results. Individual session pricing is available, but packages reduce your per-session cost significantly.
Most people need 6-8 sessions to achieve 70-90% permanent hair reduction in a treatment area. You’ll start seeing less regrowth after your second or third session, but you need the full series because your hair grows in cycles.
At any given time, only about 20-30% of your hair follicles are in the active growth phase where the laser can effectively target them. The other follicles are either resting or shedding. That’s why you space sessions 4-6 weeks apart—to catch different follicles as they enter that active phase.
Some areas respond faster than others. Underarms and bikini line often show results quicker than legs or back. Hormones also play a role. If you have hormonal imbalances or PCOS, you might need a few extra sessions or occasional maintenance treatments down the line.
Modern FDA-approved lasers work on most skin tones, from very light to deep brown. The technology has improved significantly over the past decade. What matters more is the contrast between your skin tone and hair color.
The laser targets melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. Dark hair on light skin gives the best contrast, so those are the easiest cases. Dark hair on darker skin requires specific laser settings and wavelengths to avoid skin damage—this is why medical supervision matters. Light blonde, red, or gray hair has very little melanin, which makes it much harder to treat effectively. Some practices won’t treat these hair colors because the results are unpredictable.
During your consultation at Dolce Aesthetics NY, our team evaluates your specific combination of skin tone and hair color. We’ll tell you honestly what kind of results you can expect. If you’re not a good candidate for laser hair removal, we’ll say so rather than take your money for treatments that won’t work.
The upfront cost of laser hair removal is higher, but the lifetime savings are significant. A full bikini wax in Brooklyn costs $50-80 every 4-6 weeks. Over 10 years, that’s $6,000-$9,600. Over 30 years, you’re looking at $18,000-$28,800 just for one area.
A complete laser hair removal package for the bikini area typically costs $1,200-$2,000 total for 6-8 sessions. After that, you might need one maintenance session every year or two at $150-250 per session. Even accounting for maintenance, you’re saving thousands of dollars over time.
The same math applies to other areas. Men who shave their face daily spend $200-300 per year on razors, shaving cream, and aftershave. That’s $6,000-$9,000 over 30 years, not counting the time spent shaving. Laser hair removal for the full face and neck costs $1,500-$2,500 for the complete treatment series. The return on investment is clear once you stop thinking short-term and start calculating lifetime costs.
Most people describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against your skin repeatedly. It’s not painless, but it’s tolerable. The discomfort level varies depending on the treatment area and your personal pain threshold.
Areas with thinner skin or more nerve endings—like the upper lip, bikini line, and underarms—tend to be more sensitive than areas like the legs or back. The good news is that sessions are quick. A small area like the upper lip takes 5-10 minutes. Even sensitive areas are over fast.
The laser also has cooling mechanisms built in to minimize discomfort. Some practices offer numbing cream for extra-sensitive areas, though most people don’t need it. Pain decreases with each session because there’s less hair for the laser to target. By your fifth or sixth treatment, you’ll notice it bothers you less than it did during your first session.
Yes, you can and should shave between sessions. Shaving only removes the hair above the skin—it doesn’t damage the root or follicle, which is what the laser targets. In fact, you need to shave the treatment area 24 hours before each session so the laser energy goes into the follicle instead of burning the hair on the surface.
What you can’t do between sessions is wax, pluck, or use depilatory creams. These methods remove the entire hair including the root, which means there’s nothing for the laser to target at your next appointment. If you remove the root, you’re essentially wasting that session because the laser needs the follicle intact to work.
Some people worry that shaving will make their hair grow back thicker or faster. That’s a myth. Shaving doesn’t change your hair’s texture, color, or growth rate. It just cuts the hair at skin level. So if you see stubble between laser sessions, grab your razor. You’re not interfering with the treatment.
You need to avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before your laser hair removal session and one week after. This is non-negotiable if you want safe, effective results.
The laser targets pigment in your hair follicles. When your skin is tanned, it has extra pigment too, which increases the risk of burns, blisters, or hyperpigmentation. The laser can’t distinguish between the melanin in your hair and the melanin in your tanned skin, so it may damage your skin instead of just the follicle.
If you live in Brooklyn and you’re getting treated during summer, you need to be diligent about sunscreen on treatment areas. Use SPF 30 or higher and reapply throughout the day. If you have a beach vacation planned, schedule it between treatment sessions—not right before one. If you do get sun exposure before an appointment, call us. We may need to reschedule rather than risk treating sunburned or tanned skin. It’s frustrating, but it’s safer than dealing with burns or scarring.
