First, we’ll have you shave the treatment area about 12-24 hours before your appointment. This might seem backwards, but the laser actually targets the hair follicle beneath your skin, not the hair you can see.
During your session, we use the Cynosure Apogee Elite laser system – the gold standard for permanent hair reduction. It has two different wavelengths that work safely on all skin types, plus a built-in cryo-cooling system that makes the whole process comfortable. Most people say it feels like a quick snap of a rubber band, and the cooling happens instantly with each pulse.
Each session takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the area we’re treating. You can literally come in over your lunch break for smaller areas like underarms or upper lip. After treatment, you might have some mild redness that goes away within a few hours, but there’s no real downtime. You can go right back to your normal activities.
You’ll need multiple sessions because hair grows in cycles, and we can only treat the hair that’s actively growing. Most people need 6-8 sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart to see the full results.

Yes, but let’s be clear about what “permanent” means. The FDA approves laser hair removal for “permanent hair reduction,” which means the hair follicles that are successfully treated during your sessions won’t grow hair again.
However, your body can develop new hair follicles over time due to hormonal changes, aging, or genetics. This is why some people need occasional touch-up sessions years later. The hair that’s been treated stays gone, but you might see some new growth in different areas.
Most of our Fresh Pond clients see an 80-90% reduction in hair after completing their full treatment series. The remaining hair is usually much finer and lighter than before, making it barely noticeable.

The pain level varies by person and area, but our advanced Cynosure laser system makes it much more comfortable than older technology. The built-in cryo-cooling system delivers a burst of cold air with each laser pulse, which numbs the skin and significantly reduces discomfort.
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap of a rubber band followed immediately by cooling relief. Sensitive areas like the bikini line do tend to be more uncomfortable than areas like the legs or arms, but it’s very manageable and much less painful than waxing.

This is important because many older laser systems or cheaper alternatives can’t safely treat darker skin. Using the wrong laser on dark skin can cause burns or permanent discoloration. Our system automatically adjusts the settings based on your skin type and hair color.
During your consultation, we’ll determine which wavelength and settings will work best for your specific skin tone and hair color combination. The most effective treatments are typically on people with darker hair and any skin tone, but we can work with most hair colors except white or very light blonde.
Session length depends entirely on the size of the area being treated. Small areas like the upper lip or underarms take about 10-15 minutes. Medium areas like the bikini line or lower legs take 20-30 minutes. Large areas like full legs or back can take 45-60 minutes.
The actual laser time is usually much shorter than the total appointment time. We also need time for setup, skin preparation, post-treatment care instructions, and answering any questions you might have.
Many of our Fresh Pond clients appreciate that they can easily fit smaller area treatments into their lunch break or between errands. For larger areas, we recommend scheduling when you have a bit more time to relax and not feel rushed.
The most important thing is to shave the treatment area 12-24 hours before your appointment. Don’t wax, pluck, or use hair removal creams for at least 4 weeks before treatment, as the laser needs the hair root to be intact to work effectively.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before and after treatment. If you have a tan or sunburn, we’ll need to reschedule to avoid skin damage. Stop using any products that make your skin photosensitive, including certain antibiotics or retinoids.
Come to your appointment with clean skin – no lotions, deodorant, makeup, or perfume on the treatment area. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won’t rub against the treated area afterward. We’ll give you detailed pre-treatment instructions when you book your appointment to ensure the best possible results.
